Candidate Questions...
Why restrict the site to only project staff?
Well, just because there are already plenty of sites out there for 'other' professions but not one that we could find that looked specifically after us. The term 'Project Management' seems to be used so frequently (a side effect of its current buzz word status) that it made searching for positions increasingly difficult. PMFinder.com turns things on its head a little bit. Employers know when they need 'proper' project staff, and now they have a place to come and find them.
Is PMFinder a recruitment agency?
No, we simply provide project and programme staff a place to upload their CV. Employers (and agencies working on behalf of employers) can then search through the database to match you up with the positions that they need to fill. And we are proud to be able to say that we have some highly respected companies browsing through your CV's on a very regular basis!
Is the site limited to IT project staff only?
Absolutely not! Let's be honest, the IT world is actually quite new to the formal methodologies party, and there are plenty of other disciplines that have been reliant on managed projects for a lot longer. As such, PMFinder.com welcomes project staff from ALL disciplines, furthermore, we are hoping to build a great community via the forums where we can all learn from each other.
Do you cater for both permanent and contract staff?
Yes, PMFinder.com is a database of project staff that are actively looking for (or in some cases considering the idea of) a new position - regardless of the contract type. So it is simply a case of letting potential employers know whether or not you prefer contract or permanent work.
Who looks at this website?
We have two types of visitors. Those who are looking for work and those looking to fill a position. If you're someone looking for work, then this site enables you to share your CV with employers and agencies who are looking specifically for project staff. If you are an employer or an agency, then you will immediately recognise the value of a site utterly focused on project staff and nothing else. No more wading through dozens of CV's for people that have only added 'Project Management' to their CV because they think it sounds impressive! For further information regarding how your details are shared, please read through our privacy statement.
My post code isn't recognised?
We find from time to time that post codes are not recognised as valid postal addresses. This is happens most commonly where 'new builds' are concerned. If you encounter any issues, please let us know and we will endeavour to sort things out for you.
What on earth is the 'Temptation Level'?
Let's be honest, it is most unusual for anyone to be actively NOT looking for their next position (in fact can you actively not do anything? Answers via the contact form). You may be completely happy in your current role, but I am willing to bet that if just the right job offer came along you might be just a little bit tempted eh? Well, that's the idea behind the temptation level. It expresses to potential employers your current job seeking status. If you are at the very end of your current contract and are looking to move on within the next few weeks you may set it to 8 or even 9 however, if you are mid way through an enthralling project then drop it down to a 3 or a 4...potential employers will recognise that it have to be some offer to tempt you away!
I copied and pasted my CV from MS Word and now it looks odd?
Yep...we came across this one too! It would seem that MS Word adds all sorts of 'silent' formatting to your CV, but unfortunately what looks great on paper doesn't necessarily look so hot on screen. To get around this, one of the best ways we have found is to paste your text firstly into Notepad (the little text editor that ships with Windows) and from there, copy it into the CV builder here at PMFinder. This strips out all of the unnecessary bits and allows you to format your CV so that it looks great on screen. Easy!
How do I format the text on my CV?
Don't worry...we thought of that! For those of you that have javascript enabled on the browser (the vast majority), you will find some nice and simple text formatting tools built into the CV editor. For those that do not, you can format the text using some straightforward HTML tags. Allowable tags are p (paragraph), br (line break), ul (bulleted list) ,ol (numbered list), li (list item), b (bold), strong (bold), i (italic), em (italic), u (underline), strike (strikethrough), s (strikethrough). To guard against XSS attacks, each tag is carefully checked, therefore please ensure you close each tag appropriately.
Can I remove my CV?
Of course! If you are lucky enough to have found that 'magical' position and would prefer not to be approached by anyone about new and exciting opportunities, then you may completely remove your CV from the searchable database. However, it may be a wiser idea to reduce your 'temptation level' so that potential employers know that it will have to be a fantastic offer to tempt you away! You never know eh!
Employer Questions...
Why should I use PMFinder.com?
PMFinder.com offers two huge benefits to employers. Firstly, we believe that there is nowhere else that provides such a complete database of project staff within the UK. What's more, as candidates manage the content of their CV online, you are far more likely to be looking at a current set of information. Secondly, we are probably the most cost effective way of reaching the people you need. PMFinder.com caters for project staff and project staff alone...we are cheaper and provide what we hope is a better quality of candidate when compared to traditional print advertising, and we certainly don't demand a huge percentage of salary like some agencies.
How long does it take to contact a candidate?
How quickly can you type...! Let's use an example here. Say that you have done an initial search and found 8 candidates that are particularly suitable for the position. Registration is very quick, simply a form with a few fields and a message to confirm your email address is active. Done. Now, browse through your list and add them to your basket, click unlock and voila! Need credit? Simply pay securely online and the details can be with you inside minutes. Easy.
Are there discounts for longer access periods?
We offer a discount for employers that would like to access the project staff database for longer than the default time period. Please contact us for further information.
How can I get involved in the support/advertising programme?
With a tight focus on project staff and promotion in the trade press, PMFinder.com is an ideal vehicle to promote your business. If you would like to become a 'Sponsor', please contact us for details of availability and pricing.
Think we've missed an important question? Tell us what we need to add here. We'd love to hear from you - this site is run by project staff just like you, not some faceless multi-national, so it's always nice to be told if we're doing things properly or not! |
